Handcrafting superb outerwear isn’t simply a day’s work for our international makers, or those here at home. It’s their passion. And, for many, it represents tradition: generations upon generations of expertise and apprenticeship.
We’ve traveled the far corners of the earth to bring you the highest-quality materials and craftsmanship—wearable works of art with as much personality as you. Setting out from our family-run headquarters in the U.S., we’ve searched the globe to find farmers, tanners, and tailors who share our ethos: authenticity, individuality, a strong sense of ethics, and attention to detail.
Many of our partner relationships span several decades. They’re true collaborations, built on mutual trust and respect. We choose these experts year after year, because they create lasting, artfully handcrafted outerwear at the highest standards of quality.
We proudly collaborate with a team of global artisans who are as committed to quality craftsmanship as we are.
Q&A
What is "vegan" leather?
"Vegan" leather mainly refers to synthetic products. Most vegan leather is not processed cowhide or sheepskin, but made of PVC and PU. Of course, there are also some innovative products based on natural raw materials, such as leather made from cork, tree bark, pineapple leaf or apple peel. Manufacturers of high-quality "vegan" leathers believe that most "vegan" leathers look exactly like the real product, but they will not become perfect over time like animal leather.
Why buy this leather?
Getting a substitute that is almost the same as animal leather products, so as to avoid causing animal suffering, has a strong attraction to people, especially young people in Britain and the United States. The sales of meat substitutes have soared, partly because of environmental concerns and health concerns, and partly because of profit considerations, investors have invested money in the development of such products.
How has the market reacted?
At present, it seems that people are quite enthusiastic about buying “vegan” leather products, especially in the United Kingdom and the United States, where consumers are awakening a global sustainable fashion movement that is widely supported by companies. According to data from retail research organization WGSN Instock, from the first half of 2018 to the same period of this year, the online supply of vegan leather products in the UK has more than doubled, while the US has increased by 75%.
Is the price cheap?
Generally speaking, "vegan" leather is cheaper than animal leather. "Vegan" leather based on plastic is generally cheaper and easier to maintain, which is a key reason for car manufacturers' interest. And "vegan" leather made from organic materials such as pineapple leaves is more expensive than plastic leather.
Is it more environmentally friendly?
"Vegan" leather made of plastic is almost not environmentally friendly. The most commonly used PVC in a limited space, especially in a burning state, will release a toxic chemical, which is a potential danger. But the organic vegan leather used in our shop, such as Pinatex leather made from pineapple leaves and Apeel leather made from apple peels, can be converted into fertilizer or biogas.
Animal leather uses toxic chemicals in the tanning process, which will pollute the environment. In addition, raising animals, such as cows, requires a lot of feed, land and water. At the same time, they are also one of the main emitters of greenhouse gases.
Is "vegan" leather a brand new product?
"Vegan" leather made of plastic is not a new product, but the vegetable leathers used in our store are innovative. They are particularly attractive to consumers who are reducing their meat intake and trying to reduce their environmental footprint. . At the same time, clothing manufacturers are working to make fashion more sustainable out of economic considerations, which greatly increases the attractiveness of products such as "vegan" leather and recycled plastics.
